Staffer vs Greenhouse
Greenhouse bills on total company headcount, so the price climbs as you grow whether your hiring volume does or not. Reported ranges run from about $6,000 to $24,500+ a year, plus implementation fees. Staffer has neither: a standard hire draws about $1,285 in usage, on every plan, unlimited seats included.

Where Greenhouse leads today
Greenhouse earned its position as the enterprise structured-hiring standard honestly, and the numbers back it up: G2's Winter 2026 report ranked it the best ATS overall, in enterprise, in mid-market, and in EMEA, all four categories, not one cherry-picked ranking. Standardized scorecards and interview kits force panels to evaluate candidates against the same criteria instead of gut feel, that discipline is real and reviewers consistently credit it. Support quality is also a genuine differentiator, praised as responsive and helpful, which is notable in a category where ATS support is usually the complaint, not the compliment. Named customers include HubSpot, Anthropic, Duolingo, and BuzzFeed.
It's also moved fast on AI, worth describing accurately rather than dismissing. Notetaker, interview transcription mapped straight to scorecard questions, ships on every paid tier now. In May 2026 Greenhouse acquired Ezra AI Labs and launched Voice AI, conversational voice-AI screening with human-calibrated scoring, and published an AI Principles Framework alongside an ISO/IEC 42001 responsible-AI-governance certification, a real, deliberate compliance-first stance. Some of the more ambitious pieces, a Job Kickoff Agent and a Candidate Insights Q&A agent, were still roadmap rather than shipped as of this writing.
Where it gets thin
The throughline across everything Greenhouse has shipped is that it reinforces the scorecard rather than replacing the human filling it in: an interviewer still reads the rubric and scores the candidate themselves, Notetaker just transcribes the conversation and Voice AI screens before it. Reviewers also flag the UI as clunky and workflow customization as a real learning curve, and multiple sources note Greenhouse has no native sourcing or outreach tool, teams typically bolt one on separately.

Choose Staffer if:
- You want that same scoring rigor without the manual work, run automatically and inspectable criterion by criterion.
- Sourcing needs to live in the same workspace as scoring and outreach, not a bolted-on separate tool.
- You'd rather pay for the hiring work done than for headcount that has nothing to do with it.
Choose Greenhouse if:
- You're at a scale where rigid, human-run scorecard discipline is the compliance and consistency lever you actually need.
- Best-in-class support and a proven enterprise track record matter more than sourcing being built in.
- You're prepared to run a separate sourcing tool alongside it.
Questions, answered straight.
Not the same way. Greenhouse's scorecard is a structured form an interviewer fills in by hand, real discipline, and it works. Staffer evaluates each criterion from the job brief against the candidate's profile automatically, with a rationale per criterion, and composes a score that reproduces exactly on a re-run. Same underlying goal, structured evaluation instead of gut feel, run as a system instead of a form.
